Got my wi-fi only iPad for Xmas and did not really think I would use it sooooo much so did not even consider 3G. Have been able to tether my it to my Samsung phone to use Internet whilst away from home which has worked really well. Am about to renew my phone contract and was going to go to iPhone but wonder if I can tether my iPad to iPhone in the same way? Setup was so easy with the Samsung Wave, so want to make sure iPhone works as well. Can anyone tell if an iPad 2 can be tethered to iPhone in the same way?

Hello there.

It would depend on whether you're tethering using the official tethering service from your carrier or are you using MyWi. Using the official one from your carrier will run a hole through your wallet EVERY MONTH because the data plan from actual data and tethering data are separate. Using MyWi (available to buy/download when jailbroken) allows you use your data plan, so if you have an unlimited data plan, it would work like a charm, but if you're using a limited data plan (capped at a certain amount of GBs), then you'll have to manage your usage. Setting it up isn't difficult. The UI of MyWi is fairly simple and is similar to Android-based tethering UI's.

Check with your carrier whether they charge extra for tethering.

Go to Settings/Personal Hotspot and turn it on, then follow onscreen prompts.
