Hello All
I hate electroncis and would like to go back to paper. that being said I have a teenager who loves to play games on the ipad but has no clue about tech stuff either so i am left trying fix it.

we have an ipad 2 and my teen has a Sim window (small - in right hand corner) whenever wathcing youtube. we have been told to do a hardware reset but the kid is worried that the add ons or progress will be lost, so this picture is ignored. I suggested going to the Apple store but got the same reply.

can this be fixed without losing any information or purchased add ons. I should tell you that except for when it was purchased it has never been hooked up to the computer again so if it has upgrades i dont know.

thanks for your help

My first suggestion would be to connect it to a computer running iTunes and let it back up, then if anything goes wrong you can restore it - you should also be able to back up to iCloud but that may be slow.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Look in Settings - General - About and look for Version, the will tell you what OS you are on. We are now at 5.1.1.
It is advisable to do a complete backup of your iPad too, which will ensure you don't lose anything should something go wrong.
Try these 3 steps in this order and it just may clear that problem you have.
From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press an app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly
Restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating.
Reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. Let us know how you go.
