AdAge is reporting today that Hearst Magazines intends to release several very high-profile iPad magazines from its portfolio this year, including O, The Oprah Magazine, which will tap into the huge effect that Oprah has had on the world of book publishing via her TV show’s Book Club, by giving users the chance to buy e-books and read them directly within the app itself. Advertising Age says that the app, which is due for release in the fourth quarter, will largely conform to the regular magazine experience, while at the same time also enabling readers to view a video message from Oprah, for example. The app will also have the facility for readers to leave comments and view other people’s comments. AdAge says that Hearst intends to charge more than the cover price of the print edition for its magazine apps, including The Oprah Magazine. No doubt we'll find out more closer to the release date.
