This week the Times newspaper in the UK issued a special iPad version of its monthly science magazine, Eureka, and it’s already proving to be a huge success, soaring to the top of the Paid Apps Chart for iPad in the UK. The first issue is dedicated to the science of sport, and in a blog post in The Times’ iPad section, David Edwards from Eureka says that the iPad app contains roughly five magazines worth of features, photographs, comments and videos on the subject. Here’s Edwards explaining why the Eureka team decided to focus on the science of sport for their first iPad edition:

“We wanted something that could show off the full range of the iPad’s functionality, a sector of science that is dynamic, dramatic and relevant, something that is highly specialised but that crosses over into everyday life. And we wanted something that meant we could indulge our own interests and passions. So it was either cake, or sport.â€

Hopefully next months’ issue will be dedicated to cake then! Among the many interactive features included in the new app is an article on physical conditioning with world heptathlon champion, Jessica Ennis, and another feature about how mimicking nature can help you to get ahead in sport.

You can download the app here for £0.59/$0.99.
