Tired eyes prevention?

Hi There
Has anyone worked out the best background and font colour for reading in the dark? Would you say the night reading option in white on black background was necessarily the best?
My eyes get tired much quicker and i cant quite work out which would be the kindest on your eyes. :o

Mostly it's a matte of turning down the screen brightness. When there is a big difference between the ambient light and the screen it is hard on the eyes. At least that's what's most likely to give me a headache.

I read on a Kindle for a year and never had any eye strain issues. Now, I turn my iPad brightness down so that the page is a gray background similar to the Kindle screen. Whether it's just familiar or actually effective at preventing eye strain, I find that setting the most comfortable.

I use white on black at night mostly, but that doesn't mean that will work for your eyes. Best to test what works for you, make sure you have regular eye exams and talk to your eye doctor.

I read a lot -- up to a book or two a day if I have time, plus news and forums. I'm semi-retired and don't watch TV, and reading is my primary entertainment. I've not noticed any eye problems in the year-plus I've used iPads extensively. If my eyes are tired, it means I should stop reading, because I should get some sleep, lol.

Thanks for all the feedback. I since discovered I had a mild eye infection and since beginning the eye drops am no longer having eyestrain:)
