To wash movies via tv

Hi all I have iPad2 and every time I connect my IPad to my tv, I can only see my pictures but can't watch my movies, do any one know how to watch movies via tv

How are you connecting it to your TV.....I use Apple TV so that I connect wirelessly but I'm assuming that you are using some kind of a cable?
