Unable to delete event from ipad mini.

I have an event on my ipad mini (purchased May 2013) which I am unable to delete -- it has a person's name and what looks like a gift box pkg. next to the name. It does not appear on my desktop computer, only on my ipad and can anyone tell me how to delete this please.

I'm sorry, I meant to add that this item I want to delete is on my ipad mini calendar.

This seems to be the birthday of one of your contacts. To delete the event, either remove the birthday date from the Contacts app, or disable "Birthdays" in the Calendar app, Calendars (bottom, middle):
