Understand Magnets and the iPad2? Please read.

I have a case coming that uses Neodymium (NdFeB) rare earth magnets in the back of the cover to keep the ipad in place and the same kinds of magnets to keep the cover closed.

Over time, would the constant presence of these magnets damage the ipad?

If they're strong enough to keep the ipad in place, would they demagnitize the credit cards in my purse?

In a nut-shell: No and Yes

The magnets won't damage the iPad. The iPad even has magnets inbuilt and when using the SmartCover is subjected to another 15 magnets located inside the cover. The iPad uses a flash drive instead of a harddrive, which means that the magnets won't cause any information loss.

Now as for your Credit Card, don't place one near that cover. I had swiped a cc over Apple's SmartCover, to see whether the magnets are strong enough to whipe the card, and they where. The card had to be replaced. Assuming your cover has similarly strong magnets, the magnets will whipe any credit card, so it would be good to keep the two seperated.
