United Airlines is one of the biggest American airlines, with an estimated revenue of $38.3 billion for the past year. Many of its passengers are iOS device owners and for them, starting in this April, the company will roll out a new personal device entertainment system for Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 7. Thus, United Airline customers will have at their disposal more than 150 movies and nearly 200 TV shows free of charge. Patently Apple publication was the first one to break the story:

Most planes will be equipped with the new system very soon, and we’ll have it installed on most domestic aircraft by the end of 2014. We’ll begin on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and select 777-200 aircraft, followed by additional fleets. In the end, all United-operated flights will have some form of entertainment.

All that flyers will have to do will be to download the latest version of the United Airlines app and make sure that their devices are fully charged. The app will the presumably stream content over United’s own Wi-Fi connection. Once launched, the entertainment system will be limited to iPhones and iPad, as support for Android devices will arrive later on.

You will be able to start, stop, rewind, pause and switch your movie or TV show anytime. The new service is sponsored by the MileagePlus Explorer Card. The United Airlines can help you perform other things, such as Check-in, Flight booking and status, Reservation management and other travel tools.
