The WordPress for iOS blog announced today that the latest version of WordPress iOS, Version 2.6, has been released to the App Store. Some major new features have been introduced in the update, including a completely revamped Local Draft system, prompted by user complaints about losing posts. WordPress says that it is now using Apple’s Core Data technology to save posts locally before they’re published or saved online.
A new Autosave draft feature has also been added in Version 2.6 to give you extra security that you can restore a previous version of a post should anything happen to the one you’re currently working on. The Add Blog/Site Setup process has also been tweaked to make it easier and faster to use.
For the iPhone version of the WordPress app, the ability to record, upload, attach and play videos within the app has been added, in response to user requests, and all versions of the app will be able to use the new Media Library, which replaces Photos to make it more like the regular WordPress experience.
Several bugs have also been fixed by the update, although it seems like the new app unfortunately has a brand new bug of its own in the shape of a “Communication Error Bad user name or password†pop up that keeps on appearing. WordPress says that it is working on a fix for this new bug, and meanwhile suggests removing the app and doing a fresh install if you’re affected by the issue.
