No message just says failed

Go to Settings > General > iPad Storage and let us know what it reports.

Hi Vett - not sure from which version you are updating or upgrading? Usually minor updates need less free storage but the typical recommendation is to have about 5 GB free so you're likely 'on the fence' - I'd suggest freeing up a free more GBs and trying again - good luck. Dave

Sorry - I would think that 6 GB should be plenty (esp. if updating w/i iPadOS 15.x) - take a look at this Apple Community Discussion to see if any suggestions there may help. Dave

Sometimes a downloaded update is corrupt, incomplete, or won't verify with the server. It may be necessary to delete the file and start the update from scratch. Here is Apples support page on update problems. Down the page a bit is how to delete the update file, or maybe one of the other tips will help.

This is for iOS/iPadOS 16, but should be close enough to get you where you need.

I went to that link and deleted 15.7.2 update and 16.2 came up and that didn't fail.

You're welcome. I'm glad it worked, if not exactly as expected than at least well enough to go on with. iPadOS 16.2 is pretty stable, so those playing the wait and see game are probably ok to proceed.
