Update software on ipad 2

Help,
Have read a few comments on updating iOS I'm still confused. What do I do first and how .....update iTunes? update safari? Do I open iTunes on the computer or on the iPad.

I would really appreciate it if someone could assist, I am obviously not as good as I though on computers.

First of all, make sure your iTunes on your computer is up to date, then connect your iPad to your computer using the USB connector, when your iPad registers it will tell you that an update is available, click on update and away you go.
