Alawar Entertainment, the company behind best-selling iPad app, Hotel Mogul, has released a brand new mystery thriller game for the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch. Developed after the fashion of the great gothic Hammer horror movies and classic novels by the likes of H.P. Lovecraft, Vampire Saga sees the player take on the role of Matthew Ward, a young man who stows away on a cargo ship to escape the Spanish-American war. That was probably his first mistake! After passing out inexplicably, Matthew wakes up to find himself alone with several sinister-looking coffins. Not good! Among the many mysteries that he must solve are where did the crew go, why is he having strange visions, and why does he feel like he’s being watched?

In order to answer these and other questions, the player must explore several creepy Victorian-era locations, search for over 300 hidden objects, and follow a story full of scary encounters, all set to some suitably eerie music and sound effects. Here’s Kirill Plonikov, Alwar’s vice president of publishing, talking about the game:

“With a spine-chilling crime at the center of its spellbinding story, this game is not intended for the faint of heart! But if you like eerie adventures full of twists and turns and startling secrets, Vampire Saga: Pandora's Box will be right up your alley!"

You can download the iPad app now from the iPad App Store for $6.99/£3.99 or get the iPhone version for $2.99/£1.79. There’s also a free Lite version of both the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch games available.

Thanks for the heads-up on that, although you say it's okay now, I'll be sure to check that the videos are working on the iPad next time I post. Once again, I appreciate the heads-up!

Why are hidden object games SO popular? Is it just because its cheap to produce since its basically just a web page with all still images and sound. Why not a real mystery game with inventory and dialog and a story.....hidden pictures is a bar game.
