Well, if the video format is compatible w/ the ones that will work on the iPad and you can figure out how to get the file on the device - then, should work - give us some more information & questions if not certain? Good luck!

the video is a .mp4 and I don't see an option to save it to my photos.

Mp4s will go into "videos" on the iPad.

I am not at home at the moment so by memory this is what I do!
I assume you have the MP4 video on a PC or Mac?
With your iPad plugged in turn on iTunes.
Navigate to your iPad. Get it to show the contents.
Drag the MP4 into the Video slot on the iPad.
That should work.
If I have made a mistake in the description or if I have misunderstood your question then a big sorry.

I am trying to send it to the video folder on my ipad. The mp4 i received in an email on my ipad and i thought there was a way of doing this without going to my pc to do it. Do you know if. there is a way of doing it from within my ipad?

Well, out of curiosity (i.e. never having given it a try), I emailed a message to myself w/ a MP4 video attached (free short one off the web) - see image below from my iPad; I could 'Save Video', but indeed went to my 'Camera Roll' and could play the video from there but nothing appeared in the Video app nor did I see a way to get the file there? SO, just a verification of previous comments -

Thank you for all the help you have given to me. I guess there is really no way to save the mp4 file to video. I still will be able to view the mp4 in the camera roll, so all is not lost. Once again, thank you.

Yep, that's where they go, pretty much like when you record a video with the on-board camera, it also saves to the camera roll. Only videos synced via iTunes or bought from the iTunes Store go to the Video app.
