What is number associated with forum icon?

I am very new at using the iPad. What is the number by the forum icon mean and how do I get rid of it? For example, there is a number 2 by my icon.

It's the number of threads you are subscribed to. Open the IPF app on your iPad and find those threads. Open them up and the number will disappear. However, be advised that numbers will return for every thread you post to (subscribe to.)
