What is tethered /un-tethered?

I keep hearing about jail breaking tethered/untethered not sure what this means? Thanks in advance

Tethered: reboot only possible via PC
Untethered: can reboot on it's own.

The iPad rarely needs to restart, so it is not much of a hassle, but considering that the untethered jailbreak is coming out today, it is probably best to wait a few more hours for it's release.

Well, it depends where you live. In Europe the untethered jailbreak will be released in the early morning hours.
