I have downloaded Whatsapp to my iPhone a few weeks ago. Now I want to put it on my iPad but it no longer seems to be in the app store. Why not? Am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong, WhatsApp is an iPhone only app and will not run on the iPad. Here is what the developer has to say about it. http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/iphone/20950161

I had not realised there were apps that only worked on iPhones. All the other apps I have found for iPhones work just as well on the iPad. I presumed that all of them did.

A 'Universal' app is one designed to run on all iDevices although it may be 'optimized' for one or another devices, such as the iPhone; other apps are designed to be used on just one device - a little more information HERE - Dave

I had not realised there were apps that only worked on iPhones. All the other apps I have found for iPhones work just as well on the iPad. I presumed that all of them did.

If you look at an app listing in the AppStore, it will say which devices it will work with. There are also iPad only apps that will not work on an iPhone.
