Where to order replacement parts?

Department Q

iPF Noob
I do some iPad repairs and I have not had great luck getting reliable parts for the iPad 2.

Does any one know of a good, reliable source to get replacement parts for the iPad 2? Some original (OEM) parts would be preferred.

The random amazon sellers have been not so good. I have received a number of parts that were defective as they arrived. . Any advice?

Without wishing to sound like your parents, :p , why the heck didnt you just take you device back to Apple to be fixed officially? They use custom and bespoke fixing and maintenance parts, not to mention very specialised components, which, soucing for yourself from the web isnt generally a wise idea.
Apple are very particular over the construction of their devices. They're not just run-of-the-mill items that anyone can hack and amend in their bedrooms at home. They're highly highly specialised, by highly qualified engineers, which im sure you're aware of. If you're looking over e general web for parts and bits and asking us for advise it seems your knowlege and experience in matters such as these are pretty scant and low.

Honestly, to save greif, hasstle and ultimately costs, why not just get it officially fixed? And maybe purchase a cheap or broken device for experimenting on?

Not wishing to sound condesending atall here i assure you, just looking for the best solution.

I'd rather have it fixed by Apple. My knowledge is limited especially with static sensitive components. It's nice to know but base on experience, it becomes more expensive when I make mistakes.

Apple's proprietary parts go directly to the Foxconn plant in China. Some make it to Apple's private service facilities in various countries. Apple doesn't sell them.

FWIW, A friend of mine bought a used iPad 1 at a thrift store just after the iPad 2 came out... After a month or so, it stopped working. It would no longer boot.
He took it to the local Apple store. He told them he bought it used and despite that, they swapped the dead unit for a working refurb model at no cost.

It's worth seeing what Apple is willing to do before attempting repairs.

Now that's amazing!

I've never used them, but ifixit has a decent reputation, and they appear to sell parts. I suspect they may use the same suppliers you're buying from directly, but perhaps they are a bit more likely to choose the more reliable of those sources.
