Why Ipad 3 does not connect by bluetooth to Iphone 4s?

I'm assuming you want to use the personal hotspot feature of the 4S. There are not really too many other reasons to link the iPad and iPhone through Bluetooth.

If this is so, turn on Personal Hotspot in Settings on the iPhone, then ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. The personal hotspot should take care of the Bluetooth link. As far as I can make out, it isn't possible to make the link manually. (I'm trying this out right now). If your phone is connected to wifi, the personal hotspot will not work, but since your iPad will also connect to the same wifi it isn't necessary.

If I've missed your intentions and you need this link for another purpose, please let us know so we can try to help with this.

I thought being all Apple products I could easily transfer files between the two using Bluetooth connection. Why is this a problem? They are all operating iOS6.

Hi again, Charles. Bluetooth on iDevices is a cut down version. It doesn't offer file sharing. It's usual function is connection of keyboards and speakers, that sort of thing.


There is an app which will transfer files, presumably through BlueTooth, but I've never tried it. It works by touching the iDevices together. It's called something like "Bump", but I've never looked for it, so can't really tell you much.

Bluetooth would work for file sharing with apps for that purpose, also available for wifi connections (both devices on the same network).
Anyway, you can easily share files between the devices using icloud, in case of photos enabling photostream if both devices run with the same apple id (otherwise you could create a sherd photostream under iOS6)
Same (iCloud) works with Apple's documents (Numbers, Keynote, Pages).
Other Apps using "files" you might want to use between several devices might offer cloud sharing as well.

Also you could consider using services like Dropbox for your transfering needs....

Dropbox is a really simple way to share files between many devices, Apple or otherwise.
