I'm not sure of its exact meaning, but it shows up when I use the iPhone's hotspot, both on the iPad and Computer. I assume it has something to do with mobile hotspots and tethering. I think it is supposed to represent two links in a chain, which makes a kind of sense.
I've been wondering the same thing. I see it rarely. I am tethering the iPad to the iPhone constantly, and DO NOT see it anywhere on either unit. But as I said, I have seen it pop up briefly - in the status bar area at the top.
Yes. It shows up in place of the wi-fi signal strength icon. There is nothing brief about it on my iPad. It's there as long as I'm connected to the iPhone's hotspot.
Found it! In my (Jailbreak app) SB Settings, there's a setting to show the numeric WiFi strength. If that is turned off, that link symbol shows instead.
How fast or slow to upgrade is all to do with a lot of variables, namely your Internet connection and what you have on your iPad now. If you do the upgrade now you will go straight to 5.0.1, do a complete backup first and it's a good idea to disable your virus protection on your PC for the duration of the upgrade. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes too. Have a look at these links and they will explain it for you.
