My son was on his iPad mini 2 and he says that voices (that we not associated with any aps he has) started saying numbers. He is convinced that someone has "hacked" into his iPad.

He was playing Call of Duty, World at War. The sounds are not associated with the game, as far as DS thinks.

What, if anything, could this be?

(To add to the paranoia, he says his iPhone made a strange noise at about the same time.)

Thanks.

Were his iPad and iPhone plugged into power, and does he have Allow "Hey Siri" turned on in Settings > General > Siri? That can cause some strange responses form Siri when it's accidentally triggered; anything from reading you back some notifications to starting an audio app playing.

As for the hacking. It seems pretty unlikely. Even it it were easy to hack the iPad (which it most certainly is not) what possible motive would a hacker have for sending you a voice saying some numbers. And no, it would be an accident. You don't accidentally send audio to the speakers of a computer. There are too many steps involved, and none of them have a thing to do with breaking into the computer.
