Wifi - Faster on Wifi model than 3G model?

I have both 32GB 3G and non-3G. Both are connected to the same wifi network in my home. The non-3G internet speed is far superior than the 3G model. Why would this be the case? Oh yeah, have yet to sign up for AT&T so that can't be interfering with the wifi.

I have those same two ipads and I haven't noticed any difference in speed.
