Hi
Can anyone pls recommend an app that will allow me to track wifi usage across a wifi network, including both the iPad that has the app on it, but also all other devices eg laptops or iPads or iPhones?
Cheers
Alec

Hi Alec and welcome to the forum! :) Please provide information on the iDevices that you own and what iOS is/are installed on these devices - will help.

Also, what do you want to tract? The apps are rather limited relative to iOS (vs. OS X), so we need to know what intentions you want? Dave

I think you'll need something set-up at the router level to monitor data usage by device. Depending on your router, it's software may already have a level of monitoring, or you may need to either upgrade your router firmware or buy a more commercial grade router for monitoring.

You would be able to connect to the router's web interface with your iPad to monitor the stats, reset, etc.

I keep an eye on network tools for iOS, and I've never seen one that will let you monitor traffic. I don't think Apple gives developers enough low level access. Or maybe it's something else.

There might be a tool in the Cydia store, for jailbeakers. No idea.

The three network tools I currently have on my iPad are:

Fing - because it's fast.
JaNet HD - lots of tools
zScan Pro - slightly different tool set

All of them have basic tools like ping and route trace, and port/MAC/IP scanning. None of them can scan and record network traffic, let alone traffic to a specific computer or IP address.

Although I do not follow these network tools on iOS as closely as above, I have to definitely agree w/ the last statement, i.e. only the basic information is generally available and there is considerable overlap in these apps.

On my iPad Air 2, I have two of the above mentioned apps, i.e. Fing & JaNet ND; also have Net Analyzer - but bottom line is that you will be unable to do what was requested in your OP on an iPad - over the years, I've written to a number of app developers (e.g. related to a battery app & also to AirStash), and the usual response relative to lack of a feature or so, was that Apple did not permit that specific 'intervention' - Dave :)

Thanks all. I expected it to be hard. I had looked myself and couldn't see an obvious solution. I have looked on the wifi router software, and I can't see anything to help me there either.

If you've got a computer on the network it's going to be easier to use that. If you need access from the iPad for some reason you could use a remote desktop app to access and run the software on the computer.

I'm not sure why that would be better than just using the computer to begin with, but I'm also not sure what you're trying to accomplish.

Good luck.

From your previous post, you have at least 7 iDevices that you want to 'track the Wi-Fi traffic' - BUT, I agree w/ TP's statement above in bold, i.e. why do you need to know this information, e.g. are these devices used by your kids or others that you need to know their internet activities? Just curious as are others - Dave :)
