Wmv's on iPad.

I must be one of millions who adore their iPad and cannot understand why, having invented the best portable devices in history, Apple has to be so darn exclusive !
No sooner had I read a seemingly automated thread saying forget about Adobe for iPad, the forum gives me a a lead to an Adobe App...I've yet to try it.
But can some Kind soul out there explain why so many vid files (dunno what format) used by online newspapecanard news agencies cannot be seen on my Paddy, and in particular why friends' emailed wmv files are also invisible. I've ffaith that some genius will have an App which makes these files viewable. Cheers.
