Hi,

I am looking to change the format I use for playing backing tracks through my PA system.
I am currently using mini discs and have been told that I may be able to use an Ipad using an Alesis docking station.
If this is so I would need to be able to record some existing backing tracks onto a software programme in order to change their format, as well as importing MP3's and tracks bought from Itunes.
If this is possible what would I need to buy?

Hi
I am also interested in using my iPad (4th Gen) for backing tracks. In my case, for years, I have been using a pc with Cakewalk (MIDI sequencer) connected to a Roland Sound Canvas, which in turn connected to my PA.
I ended up uploading my analog tracks to my MacBook, doing some editing as far as volume using Audacity and saving them as MP3's. Then I transferred them to a song player program on my iPad called SongBook+ (BauM software out of Germany). I connect the iPad to the PA with a USB configuration. Works great.
I'll stop here in case you found a solution that works for you. But, if you haven't, send a reply and I'll fill you in on the details as far as the gear used to connect all of this together so that it works.

I'm not sure if you are looking to change the audio file format or do something like audio editing. One of the free apps called Music Studio, I believe lets you import MP3s and assign it as a track for editing. I think there are many programs or apps that can convert the audio format if that is what you are trying to do.

I use Stage Traxx. Lots of good features such as being able to set the volume for each track, compiling set-lists ad hoc rather than having to import them from Itunes, changing scrolling speed of lyrics etc. etc. Very good support also. This isn't an ad btw, I'm just glad I've got it.

Audacity (free) to change format. Stage Traxx (cheap & there is a free version you can try) To play the tracks. You just need a lead from the Ipad headphone socket to your pa

I use dj sampler. Its free and simple to use. Just load mp3s into a cell, and you can just hit it to trigger it. Great if you are playing guitar, as it is just one click to trigger a sample
