Instagram “app” for iPadOS

If you open Instagram.com in Safari on your iPad and “Add to Home Screen” - it creates an Instagram “app” in landscape mode.

It doesn’t look like it is open in Safari anymore. It looks like a standalone app.

I’ve never seen a site/app do this. Is it a feature of iPadOS?

I’m running the iPadOS beta on an 11” iPad Pro.

This is called a web app and they have ben around since the iPhone was introduced in 2007. The developer can have it set up so that it does resemble an app as downloaded from the App Store. This is not new to iPadOS 13.

When the iPhone was first introduced, web apps were all there were as the App Store did not yet exist. My local transit company has a web app which I use for timing my bus trips.
