Twitter has introduced today a feature that users have been requesting for quite a while now - the ability to mute other users’ tweets. Here’s what Twitter said about the new feature:

In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a Tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less. Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user. The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets; you just won’t see any of that activity in your timeline. The muted user will not know that you’ve muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time.

This has been one of the major complaints that Twitter users had with the service, but not anymore. The new feature is currently available for the web service, but it will slowly roll out to the mobile apps, as well. Twitter has also updated its iOS app with important changes for iPad users, thus bringing it to version 6.5. It now comes with a new design, photo and video previews for timeline, and easier access to direct messages. Here’s the official changelog:

Choose between “Top†and “All†Tweets in search results.
• Tweets with Twitter photos, Vine videos and other select content now show a preview in your home timeline
• You can reply, retweet, favorite or follow someone straight from a Tweet in your home timeline.
• Easier access to DMs.
• Choose a filter for your photo.
• Refreshed look for navigation.
• Discover has been updated to show Tweets related to Trends.

The new features, along with the mute function, now make the default Twitter service much better than before, and it constitutes another reason to ditch third-party apps and use only the original one.
