Adapting ipod devices for ipad Use

I have a boombox and speakers for my ipod classic. Obviously, the ipad will not fit into the spaces for the ipod. Is there any adapter that would enable use of these devices with the ipad?

I plan on building a stand for when I have it at my office, and will incorporate speakers into it. It will be similar the my monitor stand I built for my office.
