Adobe and Flash

You will miss flash..there are things that require it. However read Steve Jobs article on it and you will know it's not going to happen on iPad! I'm sending emails to sites as I reach them, pleading for them to use something other than flash. My only major irritation is people on this forum telling you you will not miss it. Yea, I can get by without water too,but don't tell me I don't need it.

True, but I can't imagine anyone expecting flash. It's irritating at times not having it, but as others have said there are ways around it.

One other thing to note - with the number of iPads and iPhones that have been sold more and more websites are likely to be looking for alternatives to Flash. I read a couple of days ago that someone else, Mozilla?, was planning to phase Flash support out as HTML5 takes hold. It will take some time but I, at least, won't be sorry to see it go.

I agree! I have used my iPad for almost a year and only once did I pop into a website that required flash.

Apple will never support flash.

I have used my iPad for less than 2 weeks and have needed flash on a dozen or more occasions. I have a Sony Vaio Z series laptop right next to my iPad so it's not a big deal. Still wish it was supported, but it's never going to happen.

I for one miss it. I'm a big gamer and almost every game site uses flash. There has to be a reason they use it.
For instance try www.godofwar.com
I also watch a lot of game trailers and some times they are flash based.

I'm not in the demographic that needs or uses Flash either, and I have it disabled on my regular PC browsers as the majority of them I encounter seem to be bandwidth-sucking, resource-consuming advertisements that pop up in your face. I have no objection if Abode comes up with a workable implementation of a mobile Flash (which isn't crippled or resource hungry) which makes Apple reconsider its position, but I don't miss it at all.

Question: I've heard people complain about this new version not having Flash or Adobe when everyone figured that would've been one of the upgrades. However, isn't there an App for that? Although I've had all the iPhones this will be my first iPad and since it's being compared to a mini computer I'm wondering how much am I going to miss the Flash and Adobe features.

If you have a computer that you're using on the web right now you can try blocking Flash on it and see how much you miss it. I know there's a Flash block addon for Firefox and I wouldn't be surprised if there was one for other browsers. That way you can find out for yourself rather than relying on other people's opinions.

PC gamer or Console gamer? I guess if you're following God of War I guess console, in which case your not a true gamer :p. PC is the only true gamer platform... until the iPad really gets going :D.

As much as I just ribbed Ncaissie he is correct in many ways. I work in education and the lack of Flash is almost crippling. "Educational" web sites are not forward thinking, often low quality coding, and roost on their old content as long as possible. Many sites we use for our students on a daily bases (being a 1:1 laptop school) are Flash based. Not only that but much of it is Shockwave based. I don't to name names *cough* Harcourt *cough* still has content in Shockwave that is now causing headaches in newer 64 bit browsers. Safari for a start and more recently Explorer. No sign form Adobe that they'll every update Shockwave again, and really they shouldn't.

To use a term there is a great deal if academic "cruff" floating around that schools at all levels of instruction still use. The iPad is very much a hostile environment for most of it. It is a real hinderance.

Hopefully, the solution will be here sooner thn we think for flash. I remember reading an article where adobe is developing some kind of technology to automatically convert flash to iPad supported format on the fly. I forgot the name but it's something catchy sounding. I would guess Adobe strategy is if u can't beat em, join em. Or find a good wrkaround for it. As they will still profit.
I just checked real quick, it's called "Wallaby" check the link out below
http://www.swfkits.com/swf-converter-blog/adobe-new-tool-may-be-able-to-convert-flash-to-html/

Sent from my Jailbroken IPad on 4.2.1 ;-)

I really hope that no one starts using Wallaby, as it is really buggy. The converted sites don't even support zoom properly. It seems like a neat idea to just convert existing flash sites, but that tool will only turn already crappy flash sites into even crappier HTML5 sites. It would be better if the sites were either taken of the inet completely or completely rewritten.

It's still only in developmental stages now as it's only available to developers at the moment. They never claimed it was running perfect/smoothly at the moment. But it's a start of finding a solution for iOS device owners until web completely converts to Html5. It's like the ipad2 cam, better thn no cam at all ;-) lol

I second iswifter! It works great for flash sites. I know people say but I never in the last year had content that needed flash. Well I guess you don't watch any full episodes from stations like fox which does not have an app. Also if you are like me and use logmein you can do it through the iswifter browser and not the way over priced logmein ignition.

No offense but that makes no sense what so ever. Unless you are on dialup you are simply falling for apples lame excuses. It has nothing to do with those ads. They are from malware and adware on your pc. I am a we developer.

I'm a web developer (not flash) so I know people paid big bucks to develop sites and will not change them for apple. Also flash was very big at one time.

If flash was so crapy do you think this big budget games publishers would still be using it? God of war 3 is only a year old.
