AirPlay allows me to play videos from my iPad (and my Mac and iPhone) to my TV by way of Apple TV through my wifi router. Can also AirPlay pictures and music and mirror the iPad 2 on up. Since I am very lazy, it saves me the trouble of having to get up off the couch and plug a cable into my iPad to do the same thing.
