I've tried several ways of trying to get airprint activated for my iPad on hp Photosmart c4780 with my windows laptop. anyone with a foolproof way?

I do not think that is an AirPrint printer.

No it's not but there are ways to enable AirPrint on any printer

Printer models not on the Air Print list are not supported. All HP Air Print capable models will come with the e- prefix in its name. There are apps which allow you to print through your computer system, which is what you would need for this situation. More information is available in our Air Print help section.
