Most of the rumors revolving on the upcoming launch of the next generation iPad agree on one thing – the tablet is surely going to be slimmer. Now, KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released an exact estimate of how much slimmer and subsequently lighter the device is expected to be. He states that Apple’s next 9.7 inch tablet will most likely be 15% thinner and 25% lighter.

“We think the tablet will, at 7.5-8.0mm, be 15% thinner than iPad 4. The new device will likely be about 500 grams, or some 25% lighter than iPad 4, run on an A7X processor, and sport cameras with similar specs to the iPad 4’s (front HD, rear 5MP). The casing shape and color (silver and black) and narrow bezel design will be similar to the iPad mini’s.â€

Thus, Kuo’s report aligns itself with the others which have been claiming that the iPad 5 is going to sport a thinner bezel and an overall iPad mini design.

With the iPad 5 getting thinner and lighter, of course some components will have to be slimmed down as well in order to fit under the hood. Kuo goes on to mention the battery capacity is expected to be 25-30% smaller and at 8,500-9,000 mAh. The thickness of the power engine is also going to be reduced with 15-20% at 5.7-8.0 mm. This is all compared to the iPad 4.

Kuo goes on to say that he expects the rapid advancements of technology to produce lighter and lighter tablets. We’re curious how far this principle can go.
