I got a iPad A1954 with cracked screen. I bought a new screen which worked apart from the home button so I returned the screen thinking it was defect. I got a new screen and same thing again, touch screen works but not the home button. It became evident when I wanted to set the finger print login. Are there different touch screens which work with certain models of ipads and not with others?

Replacing an iPad screen while retaining Touch ID functionality requires transferring the existing home button assembly to the new screen. If the home button is not transferred, the Touch ID feature will not work after the screen replacement. Did you do this?

Yes, the screen came with a button so I installed it like that. Why doesn't it work with a new button?

There is a Touch IC chip on the motherboard which process the input of Touch ID to a form that can be processed by the iPad. The Touch IC chip has to be paired with the Touch ID on the home button in order for Touch ID to work. Special equipment that Apple doesn’t sell to unauthorized repair centers is necessary to do the pairing. That’s why your home button doesn’t work.
