Is there an app that will let you actually watch movies and play music directly off your computer from your iTunes account? The remote app is cool but I wish it would do the above due to limited space with my 16gb iPad...

Remote can do control your iTunes remotely. You need to activated the home sharing feature.

As DrHouse says, Home Share is the ticket. You can access everything in you iTunes library just like it was on your iPad.
