App sync new ipad

So I am getting an iPad this Tuesday. I've had an iPhone for over a year and I've downloaded a ton of apps. When I first sync my iPad is there a way to have it not install all those apps? I want to kinda start fresh with the ipad

iTunes will give you the option to set it up as a completely new device or set-up from a previous back-up. simply choose the option to set -up as new device, giving it a unique name.
