AppleInsider reports that 2012 continues to be a record-breaking year for Apple, with analyst Charlie Wolf from Needham & Company issuing a note to investors on Thursday saying that he is increasing his June iPad shipment forecast up to 20 million units from his original projection fo 13.5 million units. Wolf says that he feels that his initial estimate, which was made in April, was “hastily formulated,†hence the much bigger figure now. Wolf went on to say that he believes that it is only a matter of time before iPad shipments start to exceed iPhone shipments, because he says the iPad is making inroads into the business market much faster than the iPhone. Also, the iPad’s upcoming launch in China on July 20 will result in a significant boost in sales. As AppleInsider notes, should Wolf’s estimate be correct, that would be a massive increase from the year ago period figure of 9.25 million units shipped, and would be a new record for iPad sales in a quarter, with the previous record being 15 million iPads sold in the 2011 holiday period. Wolf says that iPad has been selling especially well to business and education customers, with the 16GB iPad 2 proving to be very popular.
