You are correct, Yes it is turned on. Been reading some posts on this forum where they say it's a 50 50 shot if you have one of the older covers to work. I just ordered one on ebay for $8.50 shipping included, Can't beat the price, they say it is the new one for the ipad4. Thanks for your help.

My smart case puts my ipad4 to sleep.

My smart case works great n puts my iPad to sleep fine, however the hole for the 30 pin connector looks dumb when u have a lightning connector. Also, it seems to mess with the angle of the plugging in. Idk y ur smart case isn't working? That's weird.
