Apple will not accept cash for iPads

I used a gift card when I bought my iPad, but the gift card was only 150.00 of my total purchase and the rest was on credit card.

Seems that OrlandoiPad can use the gift card so long as he/she charges 99¢ to the credit card

I think I will try that tomorrow. The guy on the phone felt really bad that I had the gift card but I said I can always find something at Apple to spend it on

No there aren't and there are definite reasons for that. Control. They want to track each transaction with an account. Apple is as much in content as in computing hardware. EVERYTHING you spend with them is analysed...

Why are you all ignoring the posts like mine and jrw. We paid cash at an apple store. No cash drawer? Wrong. He scanned it all on his iPhone and then took the cash to the end of one of the tables which had a drawer in it.

Not sure if your local apple store takes cash? Call and ask don't believe all this bs that none take cash.

Credit card only?

Two weeks ago I was at a SF bay area apple store to exchange my iPad (wifi problems). While there an individual paid cash $2000 plus in $20 bills for several ipads.

Got my 64GB 3G today at our local Apple Store. They made an announcement early on that only credit and debit cards would be accepted. No Apple, Visa, AMEX gift cards at all. About 5 people left the line since they only had cash.

Not accepting US Currency AT ALL Should be Illegal!! It's downright Un American! In this economy Credit Or Debit? GARBAGE!! If others choose to follow Apple's lead and accept only Credit or Debit and settle their merchant accounts in the currency of their choice where would that leave the US Dollar? It SHOULD Be Illegal!!! Counterfeit? Take Precautions! 2 per person? GARBAGE! who doesn't have multiple debit and credit cards? They can only verify your name and zip code! why couldn't I simply use multiple cards with different street addresses and the same name and zip? "To keep them from popping up in other countries?" with a markup? Who could stop anyone? The US is DEAD LAST in tech when it comes to 3G 4G. EVERYTHING APPLE HAS Say's Assembled IN CHINA!! Designed in California. Maybe Apple should Stamp Everything With an additional fact "Banked In EURO's!" Everything I use is MAC but this is RIDICULOUS!! For a small business not to have change for a hundred is one thing but for a Multi Billion Dollar Franchise to not accept US Currency in the US!?! GARBAGE FOR ANY REASON!!

Yes, to first hand knowledge. My husband and I waited on line April 30th to purchase two Ipads. During the waiting process we were repeatedly told no cash would be accepted. The man in front of me had an "Apple" gift card. He was told it would not be accepted for the Ipad.
To some degree I can understand not taking cash...but...not to take their own gift card was imo a disgusting business ploy. It appears to me ""Apple" was holding this man's money "hostage" and dictating how it could be spent. Shame on you Apple!!!
