AT&T has today announced that it has set a new single-day record for its iPad sales and activations, which it says shows “robust†demand for the new iPad on the largest 4G network in the US, which covers nearly 250 million people. However, just as with Apple’s Tim Cook, who spoke during a conference call today about being “thrilled†by the new iPad’s record-breaking launch day, AT&T does not offer any exact sales and activation figures, other than saying that it has set a single-day record. Sounds like both AT&T and Apple are waiting for the perfect moment to wow us all with what will doubtless be some pretty stellar opening-day numbers. In reporting on the story, Boy Genius Report notes that despite the fact that the new iPads were not as hard to track down and buy as they have been on the previous two launch days, and although generally speaking it seems like the lines for the new iPad have been smaller than previously, AT&T’s Wi-Fi+ 4G models appears to have been the most popular, with BGR saying it was the most sought-after model in all the stores where they enquired.
