What's new

Attention Jawbone Jambox owners!

Very important! Do not upgrade or sync your Jambox to get the new firmware. The upgrade totally kills the volume level on this previously awesome speaker. The company is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. In the meantime some of us now have a useless $200 device. There is no way to go back to the previous version. Just a heads up for the rest of you.

Unfortunately I already had updated my Jambox. I didn't really notice the volume thing but did notice the sound seemed to vibrate the speaker a bit after the update. Have any others heard issues with the update?

Lots of discussion about this issue on the Jawbone support forum. Many unhappy owners.

Thanks for the heads up. Would be great if you'd post again when the problem is fixed, if you're inclined.

Just bumping this up. Is there still an issue with the latest update?

Yes, and no fix yet. Don't update!

What was the update supposed to add?

I've been using my Jambox as-is since I bought it, and it's been working great. I have no idea what version software it's on, but why should I be looking to update (even after a fix is found)?

The last update was supposed to add a "live audio" feature which they highly touted in an email. It's supposed to be almost like a surround sound effect, but it doesn't work very well and kills the volume even when this new feature is turned off. Most of us who did the upgrade wish we could go back to the old firmware but Jawbone provides no way of doing this. Stay tuned......

I agree: the update "killed" the Jambox: no signal, no light, nothing. There is a reset possibility: Keep the talk-button pressed, then plug in the USB into the computer and release the talk-button...
And while they fix that unbelivable problem, they should also stop that much to loud on/off-sound...

Too bad I updated prior to reading this thread. :(

I noticed a vibration in the Jambox that I did not notice before updating. Grrrrrrrrrr

Big groan!

When I unboxed my Jambox I immediately turned it on and paired it with my iPad 2. Then I played a song in iTunes and just about fell over in joy! This was perfection, the ideal complement to the iPad for my palliative visiting purposes and worth every penny of the $200 I paid.

Then I plugged it into my computer via USB and with great anticipation I went to the web site. Saw I had to do an update to access the web features. Like EVERY knowledgeable user I did that within ten minutes of unboxing. That turned my Jambox into a Bluetooth brick! I couldn't believe it, thought I'd done something to it . . . resetting, reinstalling . . . Finally I had the, 'can't just be you', moment and found this thread.

The only solution I've found is to use an audio cable to get volume. When you do this you lose all Bluetooth features, speakerphone etc.

I have also had bluetooth audio recording issues with the Jambox.

This is the sharp edge on the double edged sword of 'smart' devices. I hope it can be fixed and soon.

Fix for Jawbone Jambox Volume Issue

Fix is to simply turn off the new Live Audio feature. Instructions are:

Simultaneously hold down the + and - buttons until it announces that LiveAudio is off. Then volume works great.

This is the company line but it doesn't work as stated. The volume is still lower than before the update. User beware. Still waiting for a real fix or go back to prior version.
