Attractions in London

Can you see this from inside the ship? In the hold, maybe?

It is possible if you look for it. I think some of the wires are in the thickness of the 3 decks. These interior shots aren't so clear, but give you an impression of the space....

Our trip to Greenwich concluded with our climbing the hill to the Royal Observatory.

This shot was taken at the public entrance to the Victorian telescope room. Excuse poor terminology. ;)

I like the shapes on view.

Folk now have to queue to take their photos of standing astride the Prime Meridian line. They are kept amused in the meantime! ;)

It was great to sit in the little park, in front of the stage and enjoy live music. The setting worked well. Folk were really enjoying the entertainment. Families mixed with the office workers to enjoy what was on offer.
.

Another jazz band!

Hopefully I will have more video clips on You Tube soon

Fantastic photos Richard. I'd forgotten you had told me about this thread. Loved the horses and the bread stall especially.

Hi Hayes, old friend.

I thought you would like the horses. That was a super morning, in spite of the heat. There were no crowds of spectators, so we could move around in comfort and choose vantage points to watch the cart marking and take photos.

I'm getting the hang of uploading videos to You Tube. So, I'm going to bore folks with loads of music from both sides of the Atlantic! ;)

BTW, I hope you got the Toshiba going again.

Cheers

Richard

No, hubby has gone to Sherborne market and I don't like messing with electrical plugs. I like to live! These laptop plugs are a sealed unit. Gone are the good old days when you could open them up and cut the wire, remove the covering and replace the copper wire and screw it in. I got very adept at doing this in absence of hubby.

Yesterday we visited Tate Modern and wandered around the exterior of the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. We then walked the Millennium footbridge and back to Blackfriars Station for the train home.

Blackfriars Station has been transformed into a steel and glass encasement of the entire bridge to form a railway station which spans the Thames. The southern entrance is verging on genius, putting access to Bankside from a railway so very close.

We got into Tate Modern just before the heavens opened! Coffee was the first item of enjoyment. The main G Floor restaurant has delicious coffee on offer, but the service is very slow!

I am posting some photos of the artwork under the favourite images thread. However, as a taster........

I found the shadows more interesting than the artwork - groups of differently coloured light tubes. Oh of course, shadow art! :)

Another great series of photos Richard, thank you. Nice to see how they are modernizing the stations. Do they still have the loudspeaker announcements when the train is stationary, in a somewhat doom-laden voice, "mind the gap", "mind the gap"?

As always very interesting to see and read your detailed review. Your grandnephew certainly enjoys his stay. :-)
I recognized Millenium Bridge without reading your comment. :-) No threat of Death Eaters there? ;-)

Thanks Andrew. You bet they do - also female voices are to be heard on the Tannoy, which lightens the mood.

Thanks Johanna. No threats. The bridge is stable now. :)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Watch out for Deatheaters. Lovely photos Richard.

Yesterday, I took my nephew on an excursion in the area between Holborn viaduct and Fleet Street. The area is a maze if streets and narrow pathways. I did manage to get lost a couple of times, but its a compact area where the adventurous spirit can enjoy the mazes and discoveries.

We alighted at Farringdon Station. Looked at Smithfield Market....

Then we walked along Holborn Viaduct...

It was interesting to see gold detail being applied to one of the bridge ornaments.

We stopped at Eatsies for a delicious Tuna melt, panini with ham and cheese and mocha. Access to, and the view from, the sandwich bar was obstructed by road and footpath improvement wors. We got there as I wanted to try the fare which came highly recommended by an iPF member. It was well worth the effort - great food and drinks are on offer :) :) :) :) :)

We then got to see Dr Johnson's House. ......
A facsimile of his dictionary was there to leaf through. I was fascinated by the hinged dividing walls on one floor.....

This house w as an unexpected discovery. :)
The house is looked after by the National Trust. It, as well as other important small historic houses are listed in a super website called London's Small Historic Houses. Google Londonshh.

We went on to Lincoln's Inn Fields to enjoy the Soane Museum and the Royal College of surgeons Hunterian Museum - different and full of specimens in jars, trays of historical equipment etc.

I'm glad to see that our car was parked up, waiting for us ;)... C

Thanks Richard, I really enjoyed this lot. The older historic and preserved parts of London evoke the atmosphere of quality of building in the Victorian era.
That third picture from top, is that the Old Bailey in the background? It was only the other night that I watched a recorded "Witness for the Prosecution".
