Back button issue

Am having to hit back button twice to return to previous screen. One tap does make the arrow appear to operate, and the forward arrow then activates, but the page remains the same..........

This is in Safari.

I have:

Cleared history.
Cleared cookies.
Restarted unit.

Just started in the last few days. And not on all sites. Maybe their software?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I haven't noticed anything untoward with my Safari......do a reset of your iPad and hopefully this will fix the issue.
Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you may see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. Let us know how you go.

It also could very well be the web site. I have noticed that some sites like to "trap" you in that their page is loaded so that it continues to display even though you are hitting the back button. I have seen this on my iPad and on my Windows PC.

There are only two ways I have found to get off the page: (1) close the tab and then start over with a new tab, or (2) press and hold the back arrow (on the iPad). This will bring up a list of previous [back] pages you have visited and you can then pick the one that is not of the web site you are currently "stuck" at.
