battery lifespan IPad 3

Hello.
I have an IPad 3, bought in 2012, and have used it very little.
How do I tell how much battery lifespan there is left in it?
How do I shut the iPad down completely? Not just "sleep" turn it off completely?

To shut down an iPad completely, press and hold the power button until the slide to power off slider appears. slide it to the right and the iPad will fully shut down.
