BBC iPlayer app on 32" TV via my iPad

Is anyone used to watching BBC iPlayer from their iPad 2 please?
I am watching through my iPad via adaptor and HDMI cable and the picture does not seem to fill the screen both on my iPad or 32" TV.
Any suggestions please?

Remember that the dimensions of the iPad screen do not match that of a standard or HD TV, so it's inevitable that they'll be some 'white' or 'black' space around the picture.
