Yes, I've read a bunch of accounts.
The Oklahoma City bombing was done with fertilizer -- potent stuff.
The Branch Davidian standoff was in Waco, by the way, and the Oklahoma City bombing was revenge for the US government handling of the standoff.

That type of bomb has a bigger blast effect. It was a favourite technique used by the Provisionals during their UK mainland campaign. The first intention of the terrorist is to disrupt, the second, to kill. A second device or IED (improvised explosive device) would be placed nearby, this would be to catch out any emergency services responding. A coded warning used to be given, which, if we are to believe reports, was not given in the Boston incident.

Sky reporting on a shoot out and explosions heard after a cop was shot dead on the MIT campus after attending a disturbance. Do not know if it is linked to the Boston marathon bombing but reported that FBI and Homeland Security at the scene. Apparently two scenes, Cambridge & Watertown. One in custody in an ambulance being questioned by FBI. Again, it would be too soon to link all the incidents but the FBI has widened the scene saying there is a danger of further explosions (significant). I am sure all will come out in the wash but what can be said is the authorities in the US have acted swiftly. It is heartening to see the amount of resources which are available to them.

Those are disturbing reports, Barça. I had to check on "maps" for the proximity of the events.
There has just been a news report about the incident at MIT, with a note that authorities are unsure whether this incident and the Boston Marathon one are linked.

Hi Richard, I think it is well too early to say whether any of these incidents are linked. However, the old adage springs to mind, once is coincidence, twice is happenstance and three times is enemy action! I am sure we will learn what has been happening later. The significance of FBI & HS attendance is telling. Again, this could be due to the fact that explosives have been used but my own view is that there is some suspicion of a 'terrorist' involvement for both agencies to be involved. All conjecture at the moment but what is sure, poor old Boston is having a busy time!

Hi Barçamad, I'm with you here. It's far to soon to know the circumstances attached to the events over the past 5 or 6 days.
It's a case of wait and see what emerges, rather than speculate.
As you say, poor Boston and area are really suffering.

At the end of the day, Richard, we, the onlookers, are not a priority. Already 'jump the gun' reporting has got out to the public about an arrest for the marathon incident. This sort of thing only sows confusion, i.e. are the authorities being upfront with us? Is that so important at this stage? I don't think so. The people who have suffered, the families of those killed, of those injured are important. What is more important is that the perpetrators are dealt with. I am grateful for the fact that we Brits aren't being bombed and blasted for a change.........at the moment that is. Also out of this tragedy, it may bring some perspective to those, particularly in Boston & New York who have wholeheartedly supported this form of terrorism in the past. What is clear that such acts are vile no matter who is behind them. There, got that off my chest.

the London Marathon is still going ahead tomorrow and for everyone who enters the race £2 is going to be given to victims of the Boston tragedy.

In addition, runners have been given black ribbons to wear.
The running community is a great, supportive one.

The person photographed on the roof of the building at the time of the explosion was wearing a cap similar to that in the 3rd of the photos you posted AQ_OC. There may be other coincidences in build and clothing.

Guys n gals, Sky now report the Boston police commissioner as saying that one of the suspects wh escaped in the shoot out is suspected to be one of the marathon bombers. Big manhunt underway. All I can say at the moment, is well done US authorities. Let us hope that they can bring this to a swift and firm conclusion.
