Building an iPad from scratch...?

Unless you have access to the Apple proprietary chips (which will have at least a rudimentary BIOS in them), this project is for naught.

There's sort of a history to this; the original idea came some time ago when a member realised that he could purchase iPad spares that would be used to repair faulty iPads - i.e. a spare processor card, a spare LCD screen, a spare case etc etc and that member surmised that the cost of these spares would be less than the cost of a new iPad....I'm not saying I agree, of course, and I can see innumerable pitfalls but most certainly the idea was not to, say, design a bespoke processor card and populate it with custom Apple chips....

The iPad doesn't have a BIOS but instead has a Bootloader which includes Restore mode. One time my iPad went into restore mode without a OS so when I reset it it went back into restore mode. So after you created your iPad it's done press home until a "connect to iTunes screen" appears and then connect to iTunes to set it up.
