Whoops! Ignore this request...I discovered that the iPad calendar syncs nicely with my Google calendar.

It will also sync with Google Contacts if you set your account up as and exchange account on the iPad.

And as a bonus, if you follow the last link in the instructions it will tell you how to sync multiple Google calendars with the iPad.

If you want a variation from the chunder pink of the standard app, I recommend Week Calendar HD. The interface is the same, but the colors, font sizes and other features are customisable. It also syncs just the same as the native app.
