Cannot Add Movies On My PC To My iPad

I downloaded the VLC Media Player App. I did this because I have all kinds of movie formats on my PC. I tried everything, however I cannot seem to transfer all of my movies to my iPad. I was able to get some of the videos into iTunes, but cannot even get them on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

I also want to transfer pics on my computer to my iPad, and cannot figure how.
