Cannot log in to AOL

When I try to log into my AOL account via safari I get message:

'Sorry but you will need to enable cookies and javascripy to use you screen name with this site' when setting your browsers javascript and cookies are not set up correctly'

I called AOL tech support you said that I needed to clear my browser, but I have a feeling that was uncertain. He also said I needed to contact Apple. Thanks AOL!(talk talk)

Any of you experts out ther can help a 77 yo newbie?
