Can't access into iTunes, to update software

I received an iPad 1 which was rarely used, but never updated. In fact the old owner could not get into any secure websites because the clock was still set to Jan. 1, 1970 and that invalidated the security certificates. Once the date and time was corrected, access was granted.

Now, I would like to activate iTunes to get some updates, but when I wanted to [agree} to the contract at the end of the page, the button was nowhere to be found. Then, I tried to connect to the iStore and there too the [Continue] button was missing.

Also, the visited websites like news, etc., the screen turns grey and everything is locked. In the Settings\Safari configuration cookies are set to be accepted and all other restrictions and blocks are lifted.

Can someone please help and tell me what I am doing wrong? Would be much appreciated.

Try connecting the iPad to the most current version of iTunes (on your computer). Once it's connected, you should see a Restore or an Update button. Press that and let iTunes update your iPad to the latest version (which, for the iPad 1, is iOS 5.1.1).

Using iTunes on a computer with the iPad connected via USB is the only way to upgrade an iPad.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
